Congress's new 2000 page bill

http://www.cnn.com/2015/12/16/politics/congress-obamacare-sledding-oil-export-campaign-finance-cybersecurity/index.html

1. Mimicking college students congress has waited until the end of the semester to get any work done. Congress has crammed a year of work into two massive tax and spending bills. They're expected to pass later this week. Released in the middle of the night tuesday the bills dictate how the government will spend $1.1 trillion dollars. They also dictate new policy for cybersecurity, oil exports, and suspend some obamacare taxes. They've also made sure sledding on capital hill is okay. Republicans have "tried" to repeal obama care and failed. So the GOP has settled for compromise and suspended two key taxes in obamacare. Republicans have pushed to get rid of the 40 year old oil export ban. Dark money will stay dark. Cybersecurity is getting a part. The world trade center responder program is reauthorized. McCain is fired up over missiles. And people are allowed to ride on top of sloped snow piles on public property.

2. First off I liked the joke about college students. Who knew mainstream media could be funny on purpose. Second I'm glad, or mad, actually I don't know. Anyway I feel a way that would likely be called amused disgust about congress spending so much time on only two bills. I don't think they have the right to make bills at all but who am I to claim people in government don't actually have superhuman god like priveledges? Also $1.1 trillion? Really? Whatever, the way I see it the more the government spends the closer we are to a collapse and the closer we are to socialists either breaking out of their deluded nightmare realities or starving. Republicans didn't try to repeal obama care. It's a show to appease the conservatives. They know they can't win so why would they actually try? And even if they did try they would've came to about the same conclusion since moderate republicans are blind old dogs who'll roll over if you drop a fork on the floor. I don't really care about economic regulations, dark money, or cybersecurity. I'm glad people are allowed to go on public property and use it for non violent public purposes finally. Jeez...

More Shootings and More Idiots

http://www.cnn.com/2015/12/03/politics/hillary-clinton-bernie-sanders-gun-control/index.html

1. Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders have said the response to the san bernardino shooting needs to be more restrictions on gun purchases. Clinton told a crowd she will not be silenced on guns. Sanders who used to be endorsed by the NRA is calling for bans and control on guns and ammunition. Gun control has been a flashpoint between these two before. According to investigators the shooters were radicalized and in touch with people being watched by the FBI. The radicalization contributed to the shooting during a holiday party. Clinton said they shouldn't have been allowed to do this. Clinton also defended muslim americans during a speach. Sanders has said mass shootings have become an epidemic. Sanders says congress should pass more gun control laws. CLinton blames congress for inaction.

2. All right first off california has some of the most strict gun control laws in the country. It is virtually impossible to get and carry a firearm legally in california. So I fail to see how a lack of gun control laws could be the source of the problem. Of course I shouldn't be suprised, and I'm not really, that two regressive evil morons refuse to look at facts and statistics and then change their mind like even an empty husk of a man with barely a scrap of reallity would be able to do. Also this whole not all muslims are radicals bullpoop is really starting to peev me off. Of course not all muslims are gonna go and kill a bunch of people. However I don't see any mobs of muslims calling these "radicals", who are really the closest things to real religious muslims there are, out for following their religion. Most of them are either scared they'll end up in hell for calling real muslims fake, or are actually indifferent or supportive of those who have the absolute lack of morals required to kill someone for a unfalsifiable concept that doesn't exist. Finally no gun bans are gonna be passed. The left and right statists have become so polarized lately that you might as well be asking the north and south poles to touch each other. No cooperation will happen and I'm flipping glad that the moralless monstrosity known as the left and the clueless warmongerers in the right won't be able to destroy the world any faster than they allready are.

Sanders, Socialism, and Speeches

http://www.cnn.com/2015/11/19/politics/bernie-sanders-democratic-socialist-speech/index.html

1. This thursday democratic socialist Bernie Sanders delivered a speech where he tied himslef to Franklin D. Roosevelt and Martin Luther King Jr. and described democratic socialism as no different than what this nation is. He spent more than an hour at Georgetown explaining that his definition of democratic socialism is no different than the fiery populist ideas he's been spouting. Sanders said that the wealth gap today mirrors the one during FDR's time and he was called socialist during his reign as well. The speech was a more precise explanation of what he's said in the begining of his campaign. The speech had been delayed a couple times and people were wondering if it might be cancelled. The crowd of mostly Georgetown students cheered loudly during his speech.

2. I think the speech was all right and I'm glad that people are starting to realize that the US is already pretty socialist. This'll make it easier to debate for capitalism against people who will hopefully not think of the US as a perfect example of a free market now. I guess having Bernie Sanders finally explain exactly what he stands for is a relief. He's really not too much worse than any of the popular republicans but I'm still scared to death that anyone of the 4 main contenders for the presidential victory will get elected.

Belts are not immovable objects and Iowa is stupid

http://www.cnn.com/2015/11/12/politics/donald-trump-ben-carson-iowa-belt-stupid/index.html

1. On thursday Donald Trump told Iowa voters who support Ben Carson that they're stupid for believing in his life story. His pugnacious attitude was different from the more restrained behavior on display tuesday during the debate. During the end of his wide ranging complaints Trump mocked Carson's narrative of his violent youth calmed by god. At one point Trump walked awy from his podium and flipped up his belt buckle to show that it moves and is unlikely to stop much less break a knife. "'So I have a belt: Somebody hits me with a belt, it's going in because the belt moves this way. It moves this way, it moves that way,' Trump told the crowd, which laughed in response. 'He hit the belt buckle. Anybody have a knife? Want to try it on me? Believe me, it ain't gonna work. You're going to be successful, but he took the knife and went like this and he plunged it into the belt and, amazing, the belt stayed totally flat and the knife broke.'" He told the crowd he can't understand why anyone would support Carson.

2. I think Trump has shown his true colors yet again. He has attacked Carson in his signature mocking fashion as well as other presidential candidates of both party. He hasn't had a change of heart or a realization that controling his temper is a good idea. I'm not sure why he acted so mellow during the debates but it probably was something advised to him that he obviously thought only applied to the debate. I'm not sure if Carson's story is true or not but calling Iowa stupid for believing it is definitely not a good choice.

3. This applies to our current unit because it's about presidential candidates in the republican political party.

Why Ohio didn't pass issue 3

http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2015/11/04/6-reasons-ohio-marijuana-legalization-failed/75143764/

1. The sheer crushing defeat of legalized marijuana has left many political experts palpably perplexed. Despite a $20 million campaign the amendment known as issue 3 failed drastically. Amid the wreckage of a shot down political campaign stands 6 reasons why this would happen. Monopoly is dirty word. Ever since issue 3's creaton it's been labeled as allowing a monopoly, even though the proper term is oligarchy, and people don't like monoploies. The establishment went all out and then some to stop it. Issue 2 was created to prevent the creation of monoplies, oligarchies, and cartels. A lot of voters didn't like issue 3 so they whole heartedly supported issue 2. Full legalization vs only medical was another problem. It's a big leap to go from no legal marijuana to complete legal marijuana and people aren't ready or willing to make that leap. It's an off year. While they felt that having it on the ballot on an off year would stop it from being drowned out it also cause a low voter turnout so only those who felt strongest about it came to vote. The movement itself wasn't to keen on having a bunch of rich people come in and get exclusive priveledges that they can't get access to so a lot of marijuana farmers didn't like it. Buddie the mascot stirred some distaste among people when the supposed college student appealing character was thought to attract children who people don't want around drugs.

2. I'm glad that Ohio didn't pass issue 2. This may come as a suprise but I'll explain. As anyone who has read any of this blog can probably tell I'm pretty devoted to freedom and I find myself agreeing with a couple of these points. The whole oligoploy thing is terrible and I agree whole heartedly. Also having the marijuana bud mascot "Buddie" was just sort of creepy and didn't seem well thought out. I sympethise with the marijuana farmers who didn't wan't their hard work and devotion to be shot down by a bunch of people who have money they're able to spend on something like this. I understand that people of Ohio see it as a big leap and might not be ready for it and I wouldn't want to force anyone ever to smoke or grow weed but if someone does want to I don't want guns pointed at them. Issue 2 seemed pretty reasonable for banning monoploies and the sort but as always I just wish the threat of a gun wasn't behind it. Also it being an off year election causing low voter turnout was pretty stinking obvious. It's already seen as a problem that not enough people vote so what was going through their mind when they decided to have the vote on the least likely time for people beats me.

3. This relates to our current unit about public opinion because it helps explain the public's opinion and reasoning behind not legalizing marijuana.

The latest GOP debate and the winners of it

http://www.cnn.com/2015/10/29/politics/republican-debate-2015-winners-losers/?iid=ob_article_roadto2016_pool&iref=obnetwork

1. The third GOP presidential debate has happened between the top ten runners for the presidency. With less than 100 days before the first ballots are cast this debate was more or less a test for the campaigns. A few candidates did better than others though. Rubio defended himself quite well in the begining of the debate from a question aimed at his voting attendence. He then managed to shift the topic from fighting between each other to fighting against the democrats. Cruz attacked the moderators and the liberal media viscously and constantly while earning applause from the audience consistenlty. While a lot of the debate was aimed torwards the liberal media Cruz was definitely a leader in the assault and had some of the best attacks and defenses. Kasich was a strong debater as well frequently scrutinizing the plans of some of his fellow republicans. Trump made a change and tried being quiet during the debate. He showed a softer more level headed side which assured voters wondering if he has the temperment to be a president. Christie held his ground during the debate and had a great moment where he went off about questions relating to fantasy football and gambling. Bush was a mess during the debate and left his supporters wondering what he was doing. CNBC and the media as a whole took a beating as well from the constant attacking of pointless questions and insults aimed at starting a fight. Carson didn't make much of anything during the debate. He didn't make or lose any ground, although that might not be a problme for one of the current leaders in the polls.
2. I didn't watch the whole debate but from what I saw I agree. A lot of the candidates did well or atleast decent except for bush who completely flunked it. The attacks torward useless and "gotcha" questions was consistent and savage. The moderators even earned themselves a booing after attacking Carson.I liked how most of the debaters didn't attack each other and even complimented each other's strengths. They really tried to make the debate a way to figure out who the best candidate is and not who the best mudflinger is.

American's opinions on gun control

http://www.cnn.com/2015/10/21/politics/gun-control-poll-americans/index.html

1. About half of all Americans oppose stricter gun control. More Americans oppose it than they do support it. Recently it's gone from about 49% evenly split to 52% opposition. But the safety of guns is still a controversial topic. About 7/10 people say it's important for gun owners to support laws to get them passed. About half say it's important for both parties to come to a consensus. People generally support background checks for gun purchasing. Most non white americans support gun control. More women support gun control than men. Those with college degrees are more likely to support gun control. Most republicans oppose gun control while most democrats are in favor of it.
2. I think gun control is pretty messed up. Having your neighbors and complete strangers come together and say that if you want to voluntarily buy or sell a firearm you can't unless you jump through certain hoops is wrong. If people aren't going to be allowed to buy firearms it should be decided privately free from the threat of government guns pointed at you (even though they always are no matter what). I think people who support gun control shouldn't try to coerce innocent people into not spending their money through mutual agreements and trades. If they don't want guns they don't have to have them but the people who do have guns wan't them and there is nothing wrong with having them.
3. This relates to our current unit on civil rights and liberties because it's about the right to bear arms which is a guaranteed right to not be infringed upon.

Texas man sues police and city of Dallas

http://www.fox4news.com/news/33182702-story

1) A north texas man is suing the city of Dallas and three police officers for violating his rights. A video of the encounter shows the police approaching the truck and asking where the drugs are. They can not be heard because they turned their microphones off. "'He’s sticking his nose inside the car and kind of looking, and he’s asking where the drugs are, specifically where the drugs are,' said Taylor. 'I told him, ‘I don’t have any drugs.’ I didn’t know what he was talking about. It was almost as if it was a joke of some sort.' But this was no joke". He gave him his license and he asked him what should he do and he told him he's a truck driver. The officer just looked at him. Taylor gave the officer his concealed carry license and the other officer started to pipe up. He starts to try to provoke him by telling him to reach for it but the driver is confused. Other officers begin to arrive and he is asked to step out of his vehicle. He does (fooloshly) and is brought to the front of a squad car. An officer asks to search the vehicle and he refuses to give permission. The officer threatened to take him to jail so he could search it. Taylor was brought to jail on charges of illegally carrying a weapon while the inside of his truck was being torn up. He had never been to prison before and he described it as horrible. The man describes his ride to jail as wild and rough. THe officers were running red lights and driving recklessly like little kids. The man wants justice for this.
2) I think this is pretty terrible. You see videos of police at DUIs or illegal stops trying to provoke citizens more and more nowadays. As the saying goes power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely, so it's not much suprise that even now in our supposedly civilized world police still act like monsters drunk on the power of a king. The police here pretty obviously had no legitimate constitutional reason to pull this man over and I find it sick that he had to go through such injustice just because the police can't be held accountable for their actions.
3) This relates to our current unti about civil rights and liberties because in the bill of rights citizens are protected from unreasonable searches and seizures as well as cruel and unusual punsihment which this man was just put through by representatives of our "grand and supreme" government.

Planned Parenthood battle plans to rage on into 2016

http://www.cnn.com/2015/09/30/politics/planned-parenthood-congress-2016/index.html

1. The planned parenthood battle going on in washington right now is much more than a normal skirmish. It's a struggle that could define political power in the future and affect the political parties. For now Democrats and Republicans are drawing battle lines over wether or not to fund millions of federal dollars to the organization. New York Democratic Rep claims that Republicans are fighting this war not against abortion but against women's "rights" to choose. Republicans are seizing the chance to use the videos of planned parenthood officials talking about using fetal tissue to trigger a response from republicans and put democrats on the defensive. Republicans are sincerely motivated against abortion which offends their morals or religious beliefs. However there are valid political reasons to attack the group. Planned parenthood critics claim that the organization recieves funding due to its strong democratic ideals rather than actually improving women's health. Republicans feel that denting Planned Parenthood will be a win for them and Democrats feel the same way about defending it and that it can win the crucial women's votes. The planned parenthood issue is also a chance for Republicans to strike at the Democratic Party's machinery, on an issue that both sides have organized multiple elections around.
2. I think this is a pretty serious issue. I don't align with either political party (mostly because I don't believe in the mystical entity that's beyond morallity known as the government or the majority) but I find myself agreeing most often with the Republican side on this issue. The issue of planned parenthood's use of special techniques to save parts of aborted fetuses is one thing. I guess if you're gonna end a human life you might as well profit off of it so besides being disgusted I don't really care. Abortion itself is another issue that often revolves around "rights". US liberals often claim that a "clump of cells" that can't survive on its own don't have rights since its not self sufficient and a physical burden on the mother and father. Libertarians (and Republicans) often claim that since it has Human DNA and Human cells and will generally grow into a state of self sufficiency then the fetus does have rights and therefore can not be murdered while still staying morally correct. Liberals also like to claim that the fetus with DNA not equal to the mother's is a part of the mother since they're attached and mothers have the right to do with thier own bodies as they wish. Liberals don't seem to understand how and where rights came from so often they commit hypocritical actions and cherry pick what is a right and what is a priviledge on a whim of feelings. Libertarians claim consistency and origins in defining and protecting rights so they end up usually against the "right" to abortion.
3. This relates to our current unit on civil rights and liberties because it's about the feud between the political north-west, north-east, and south about wether a women has the right to end a life they have biological control and responsibility over.

Tragic Oregon Shooting Gunman dead

http://www.cnn.com/2015/10/01/us/oregon-college-shooting/index.html

10 people were killed and 7 injured in the recent shooting at roseburg campus. The shooter was a 20 year old man and is now dead. "Cassandra Welding is a student at the college and was in class when the shooting started.
"I heard a popping noise, almost like a balloon popping," she told CNN's Wolf Blitzer. "I knew something wasn't right and so I get down."" She also said all of her students were in a panic mode and locked the doors and hid behind desks and backpacks. The shooting started in one building before heading to the science building. Those killed and wounded were found in at least 2 clasrooms. When the paramedics arrived the law enforcement had allready neutralized the shooter. Police are currently investigating social media. They say they found a conversation on 4chan with the supposed shooter and random people egging him on. Roseburg is supposedly a peaceful place and people are shocked this would happen. President Barack Obama has been briefed on the situation and is calling for a change on gun laws.
I think this is a horrible thing to happen obviously and I'm sad people had to lose their lives because of this man's actions. I wish no one had died or at least less people had died but sadly it's already happened and we need to look at this. I find it ironically funny that he was on 4chan being egged on and given advice. 4chan is pretty well known as the cancer of the internet and that these people probably jokingly gave him advice and now are partially responsible for the people's lives I hope sends them a message about people and the internet. I'm not sure about Obama using this opportunity to push for law changes. In a perfect world no one would need to have a gun but it's not a perfect world and Obama seems to push rather liberally when it comes to rights to possess firearms and I don't agree with that mindset. I don't want my right to own an object turned more into a privilege by being forced to pay for that ability. If people aren't allowed to own weapons then the power gap between the all powerful entity known as the government and its subjects will only increase and that's not what anyone with consistent liberty minded values wants.
This relates to our current unit, the bill of rights, because it focuses around the shooting done with a firearm which the right to own is guaranteed to not be infringed by the government in the bill of rights. It also goes into changing the law to potentially stop or limit these shootings from happening again.

13 year old boy charged with assault for not breaking a dare.

http://www.cbsnews.com/news/boy-charged-with-assault-after-kissing-girl-says-it-was-a-dare/

1. A boy aged 13 has been charged with assault for kissing a 14 year old girl on a dare. He grabbed her shirt near her stomach and open mouth kissed her. He was charged as a juvenile with second degree assault and released to his mother. He is also facing disciplinary actions at school for breaking the code of conduct.
2. Personally I think this is pretty messed up. They're middle schoolers and he's being charged with a crime that can ruin his entire future. He did something wrong, no doubt about it but it's not some henious act like everyone is making it out to be. They're kids, they mess around and don't even understand the concept of harrassment. They seriously went too far. At least it isn't like another thing recently where a high schooler was charged as an adult for having nude photos of 2 minors. His girlfriend and himself. That was pretty messed up. Anyway I think this is pretty dumb and is a sad reminder of the grip social "justice" warriors have on our society.
3. This relates to our current unit because it's about our society and its laws which ties into the government.

CNN debate somehow less of a trainwreck than the fox debate

http://www.cnn.com/2015/09/17/politics/republican-debate-takeaways-trump-fiorina-bush/index.html

"Donald Trump finally took some punches, Carly Fiorina grabbed control, Jeb Bush woke up and Marco Rubio and Chris Christie elbowed their way into the fray on a crowded stage. Everyone else just tried to crash the party" This GOP debate took place at the Ronald Raegan Presidential Library wednesday september 16 and was lively and full of mudslinging. Here's some things to takeaway. Fiorina is for real, she wasn't afraid to attack and keep attacking. The debate wasn't completely about Trump, he started out strong but as time went on his advantages his personality gave him started to fade and he lost the spotlight. The pros have got game, proffesional politicians have been losing steam lately but the ones debating last night held their own and maybe even gained some supporters. Jeb Bush was good, but not good enough, he had some good moments but no mass of new supporters will start a campaign stuck in the doldrums. 11 is too many people for a debate, it was a mess and no body got a lot of air time. Base plays can backfire, they all had the same basic ideas for issues and fought over each other for any differences they could find.
Honestly the debate was a mess but at least it wasn't the fox debate. No body really spoke and there were way too many references to Ronald Reagan. The politicians spent most of their time bickering over what each other may or may not have said and how their campaign is going. Trump acted like a jerk and probably should have held back just a little bit to avoid coming off as a D-bag, Carly Fiorina acted like she had a lemon in her mouth the entire debate, she was impatient and generally unpleasent. Also Carly's remark about "all women hearing what he said" really bothered me since I'm pretty anti gynocentrism and I know the usual sayings and attitudes of the generic feminist crowd. Christie and Rubio did half decently and actually had some time to speak after fighting for it for most of the debate. Also Jeb's feud with Trump was pretty dumb. Overall the debate was pretty lousy but at least it wasn't "Trump is sexist and a bad republican now lets give the mic almost exclusively to two other people" like it was in the last fox GOP debate.
This relates to our current unit because it's about the republican party and their memebers running for president which is related to politics, our current unit.

Trump Under Attack for Being Trump

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2015/09/10/trump-under-fire-for-fiorina-comments-as-jindal-launches-broadside/

1. After Donald Trump's criticism of Carly Fiorina's appearance on The Rolling Stones where he said "Look at that face! Would anyone vote for that? Can you imagine that, the face of our next president, I mean, she's a woman, and I'm not s'posedta say bad things, but really, folks, come on. Are we serious?" he has been receiving more flack than usual. When he was asked about his comments he replied saying he was talking about persona and was joking. His GOP rivals don't buy it. Fiorina says that "Maybe, just maybe, I'm getting under his skin a little bit because I'm climbing in the polls," which according to Trump himself "speak for themselves.". Jeb Bush and Scott Walker are also jumping on the Trump hate calling Trump's personal attacks inapropiate. Hillary Clinton also commented noting Trump's tendency to insult women and stating she would love to debate him. Jindal also has said  "silly summer season is over" and Trump should be sent "back to reality TV." and "We cannot send this narcissist, we cannot nominate this egomaniac,". The trump campaign later responded by highlighting Jindal's low poll standing "He did not make the debate stage and therefore I have never met him. I only respond to people that register more than 1% in the polls. I never thought he had a chance and I've been proven right,".

2. Honestly Trump is infamous for being politically incorrect. He's well liked for being rash and uprfront when confronting the media and his political rallies. I believe this will at best help him gain supporters and at worse just have angry people who were already against stay against him. I can't see this negatively affecting trump in any serious way. I personally don't like either the republican or democrat party and their members but I respect Trump because he's able to say things like these and stick to them without instantly being shut down by the media and social justice groups, I think many other supporters of him would agree too.

3. This relates to our current unit because it's about politicians and them running for office in the government. We're studying the government and how it works so the presidential election relates to it.
